Earth Hour Capital of Canada: A Fitting Title for The City of Edmonton!!
Last February, we wrote about the WWF’s global initiative called the Earth Hour City Challenge and how proud we are to have the City of Edmonton as a global finalist. Today we are excited to share that our city beat out two other Canadian finalists and was crowned Earth Hour Capital of Canada!
The City of Edmonton was recognized for its impressive actions on climate change through its “The Way We Green” action plan. This plan contains several strategies to increase energy efficiency, reduce emissions while saving money, and increasing plans for renewable energy. Best of all our city was also, “recognized for its ambitious vision of achieving a carbon neutral future.”
Although we didn’t win the title of Global Earth Hour Capital, being crowned the Earth Hour Capital of Canada is a tremendous victory for our city and Edmontonians should be very proud.
